Out of her comfort zone.
When she was 18, Azra left her home in Bosnia to find new adventure in the States. Soon after, a mentor told her the key to professional growth was to do things that might make you feel a little uncomfortable; her next cross-continental adventure—two years as an expat in India—reinforced the lesson she still believes in.
One area where Azra’s completely comfortable? Developing life-long relationships with her clients; and helping them break down complex tax rules into simple “non-tax” language.
Fittingly, Azra met her husband on Tax Day. They have two young kids and she still helps him with his returns.

Azra joined GBQ in 2018 with over 17 years of Big 4 experience and currently leads GBQ’s real estate tax practice. In addition to real estate, she provides tax planning and compliance services to clients in various industries, including private equity, hospitality, and construction.
Azra is a subject matter expert in pass-through entities (partnerships and S corporations) and individual taxation. She advises clients on topics such as choice of entity, complex income and loss allocations, waterfall structures, Qualified Opportunity Zones, troubled debt restructuring, and structuring related to merger and acquisition of businesses.
Before joining GBQ, Azra led and oversaw tax operations and professional development of 400 professionals in India.
She currently serves on the Board of Trustees for Bluffton University, her alma mater.
