April Scopetti has lived and worked on both coasts, but has called Central Ohio home for over 20 years. April received her Accounting degree from Ohio University in 1985. She joined the Columbus office of Deloitte Haskins & Sells, now Deloitte & Touche, as a staff auditor in 1986 and became a Certified Public Accountant later that year. After several months in the audit practice, April was asked to take a temporary assignment in the tax department completing separate accounting and initial tax returns for over 80 oil and gas entities. She made her move to tax permanent in 1987.
Midway through her tenure with Deloitte, April went to work in the public company arena, first as Federal Tax Manager of Consolidated Stores (now Big Lots), and then as Insilco’s Federal Tax Analyst. April returned to Deloitte in 1995, eventually joining its National Creative Tax Services group, where she was responsible for reviewing tax savings ideas submitted by professionals from all over the country.
April has advised individuals with all aspects of tax planning and compliance and has assisted business clients throughout their life cycles, from initial entity selection or target acquisition to succession planning or sale. Although April considers her very broad general tax experience to be her strongest professional attribute, she does have specialized experience in tax controversy resolution, computation of stock and asset basis, executive compensation, entity selection and conversion, determination of corporate earnings and profits, bankruptcy and insolvency matters, passive activity planning, and transaction cost analysis. She also has significant experience serving clients in the real estate, construction, natural resource, professional service, restaurant, and distribution industries.
In 2003, April co-founded Myers & Scopetti. The firm provided integrated business and tax planning to numerous entrepreneurs and their small businesses, executives, and high net worth individuals. Myers & Scopetti became a preferred provider of recurring and special project assistance to entities with multi-state and international presence. April and her team joined GBQ in 2007.
April is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Ohio Society of Certified Public Accountants, as well as, April participates in many other professional and community organizations, including the American Society of Women Accountants, where she has served as President of the Columbus Chapter; the Community Oversight Foundation, where she has served as Treasurer; and the Delaware County Board of Elections, where she has volunteered for many years.
